Vincent Van Gogh spent 6 months as an Evangelist in Petit-Wasmes in 1879.  He was preeaching in the "Salon du Bébé" at the Rue du Bois.

Half of this former dance salon is for sale now.

Vincent Van Gogh atravaillé 6 mois comme Evangéliste à Petit-Wasmes en 1879.  Il prêcha au "Saon du Bébé" à la Rue du Bois.

La moitié de cet ancien salon de danse est actuellement à vendre.

Vincent Van Gogh verbleef gedurende 6 maanden als Evangelist in Petit-Wasmes in 1879.  HIj predikte toen in het "Salon du Bébé" aan de Rue du Bois.

De helft van dit voormalige danssalon staat momenteel te koop.

 "SALON DU BEBE" ?

The Alion festival  

The name "Salon du Bébé" comes from a pagan feztival that was organized in Petit-Wasmes until 1895, between Carnaval and Easter, to celebrate the arrival of Spring, new life, childhood, ...  During this annual festival people had to search for a child - a "baby" - that was hidden in the nearby forest. 

At the end of the day people ware dancing around the "baby" placed on a table in the dance salon at the Rue du Bois.

Since 2014 a group of enthusiastic locals are trying to bring this tradition back to life again !

La fête de l'Alion

Le nom "Salon du Bébé" vient d'une fête payenne organisée à Petitt-Wasmes jusque 1895 entre carnaval et Pâques pour célébrer l'arrivée du printemps, le renouveau, l'enfance, ...  Durant cette fête, les habitants devaient partir à la recherche d'un enfant - un "bébé" - caché dans la forêt avoisinante.

Aan het eind van de dag werd gedanst rond h de "baby" die op een tafel werd geplaatst in het danssalon van de Rue du Bois.

A la fin de la journée, les gens dansaient autour du "bébé" qu'on avait placé sur une table dans le salon de danse de la Rue du Bois.

Depuis 2014, un groupe de locaux enthousiastes essaient de faire revivre cette tradtion !

Het Alion feest

De naam "Salon du Bébé" vindt haar oorsprong bij een heidens feest dat tot 1895 in Petit-Wasmes werd georganiseerd om de komst van de lente, het nieuw leven, de kindsheid, ... te vieren.  Gedurend dit feest moesten de bewoners op zoek naar een kind - een "baby" - die in het nabijgelegen would was verstopt.

Sinds 2014 probeert een groep enthousiaste locals deze traditie weer nieuw leven in te blazen !
